USB Drive Fixing Errors & Write Protection

I use 512MB Transcend Jetflash USB Drive. Recently i had problem of write protection error
with it, it was not letting me open it in explorer, also it was tough to format. So i'm listing some of the tips & techniques that can help you overcome USB disks and errors.

Tips to protecting your USB Drive
1. An important precaution is not to remove the pen drive while the data is being
transferred. Always remove the pen drive after stopping it.
2. To remove USB Disk without hitting "Safely Remove Hardware" icon follow the steps: (Under windows) Right click USB drive > Properties> Hardware >Properties> Policies> "Optimise for quick removal (This setting allows you to remove USB without using Quick removal icon)
3. Check your USB drive for Errors :Go to My Computer, Right click the Removable drive, Go
to Properties >Tools. Run Error Checking and Scan for errors and fix them.
4. If you've trouble opening USB and it asks you to format it, do format it :Right click
removable drive and select and format the drive.

What to do if it shows Write Protection?I had this situation recently, as it was not letting me format under DOS and or under Explorer. It was giving me write protection error or invalid parameter error. If you have this type of problem then do consult with the USB drive company. They usually offer low-level format utilites with which you can format and recover the USB drive.I got the USB recovery tool from Transcend Download Section. So i did the low-level format which erased the current state of the USB disk. And i got USB drive back, even though i lost the data. I got it working again.

Unknown Porblems

1. If you connect USB to USB port and it is not recognised by Operating system, check to see if USB 2.0 driver is installed (For OS older than windows 2000 & linux 2.2 kernel)

2. If you USB disk is not recognised in your computer and is recognised elsewhere, either you've to reinstall driver or check if the USB port if it is faulty.

3. If you attatched USB drive and LED is not glowing or is not recognised in any computer then it may be internal hardware fault.
