Install SliTaz Linux on USB Drive

Learn how to install SliTaz linux on USB Drive in this tutorial. Slitaz is very small linux distro with footprint of about 35mb. It can easily fit into the SD card or USB drive. SliTaz is complete live USB distro so when you plug USB into the system and boot it then surely it will run the distribution with LXDE in it.

Requirements -
  • A linux Workstation (laptop or desktop)
  • USB Drive (256MB or higher)
  • UNetbootin
  • SliTaz Stable ISO
First thing to do is go ahead and download the .iso from the slitaz official website. Once you download, don’t forget to check for the md5 checksum. If the checksum is valid then we’re ready to go.

Second thing is to install Unetbootin on your current linux distribution. By installing Unetbootin, your job of installing any linux distro on USB becomes more easy.

Now you’re set to install the SliTaz distro on your USB drive. Just plugin the USB drive and open Unetbootin. Select the slitaz distro from the list in distro selection settings. Now you can point to the .iso file and select the proper USB device on which you want to run the linux.

It’ll take some time to install slitaz on USB, once done you can reboot and select the USB in boot options. Voila, you have boot into Slitaz distro.
You can use this small distro for taking data out of the corrupted system or you can also use this USB as a rescue device.
